HIST 0089 - MAGIC, MEDICINE AND SCIENCE Minimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Dietary purges, ritualistic spells, mystical transformation, and the balance of self with nature. In each of these approaches is the presence of magic. Magic is a phenomenon common to all societies. In this course, we will study how it has contributed to religion, medicine, the healing arts, and to the emergence of modern scientific thought. Also the extent to which similar systems of belief have given birth to science, religion, magic and therapeutic practice will be explored.
