The course includes all the major topics in biochemistry in considerable depth including thermodynamics and enzymology, protein and nucleic acid structure, function, and synthesis, lipids and membranes as well as metabolic pathways. This course will require that you master a new vocabulary including chemical structures, and there is an emphasis throughout on experimental approaches, molecular mechanisms, and problem solving. Although the same topics will be covered as in the two semester biochemistry series (BIOSC 1810-1820), no one topic in BIOSC 1000 will be covered in as much detail.
