Secondary Education Minor

Return to School of Education Return to: School of Education

The undergraduate minor in Secondary Teacher Education is a 15-credit program focused on secondary education (grades 7-12). Students will receive an introduction to teaching, special education, and issues in secondary education and will have the opportunity to take electives to further bolster their study.

This secondary education minor allows students who plan to enter a graduate program in secondary teacher education to make progress on prerequisite education courses. Completion of the minor does not automatically guarantee admission into School of Education graduate program, nor does it fulfill all necessary prerequisites.

The program does not provide teacher certification. Undergraduate students seeking teacher certification should pursue our BS in Teacher Education  program.

Policies for the Secondary Education Minor

  • Students must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA to declare the minor.
  • Students must have a declared major at the University of Pittsburgh.
