Return to: Academic Programs Public health is the science of protecting the health of populations and communities. Public health professionals address issues such as effects of climate change; population control of infectious disease; air, food and water safety; and health equity. Public health practitioners apply tools from almost every field, but especially the quantitative, social, and biological sciences.
The Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) is a four year program designed to expose students to concepts and experiences necessary for success in the workplace, further education and lifelong learning in the field of public health.
The program’s curriculum blends a broad background in the liberal arts with specific training in quantitative, qualitative, scientific, and pre-professional skills in public health. Through comprehensive interprofessional education, and practice-based learning, BSPH students will be well equipped to help prevent and mitigate future global challenges.
Students must earn a minimum of 120 credits to complete the Bachelor’s degree. Of this total, the degree consists of 25 credits of required core courses, 18 credits of elective courses, 3 credits of a capstone experience and 120 hours of service learning hours. The remainder of the degree consists of general education required courses.
Note: On October 22, 2021 the new BSPH was approved effective Spring 2022. In order to maintain accurate records, the program was added to the catalog on October 26, 2021.
