Focuses on the emergence of medical institutions, education, theories, practices and the Orthodox and irregular medical sects. Describes the growth of the separate health disciplines of nursing, pharmacy and public health. Examines the impact of socioeconomic factors, religions and war on the evolution of medical science. Discusses the changing roles of government in the development of the American health care system.
