Musical Theatre Certificate

The Musical Theatre Certificate offers an interdisciplinary liberal arts musical theatre curriculum for undergraduate students with a range of interests and experiences. The coursework helps students develop a comprehensive understanding of musical theatre in its exploration of musical theatre history, theory, and practice (performance, music, dance, and design).


The certificate requires twenty-one credits with twelve credits of required courses within the Department of Theatre Arts, six credits of required courses within the Department of Music, and three Elective credits from among a selection of classes offered in both departments

Theatre Arts


Students are required to take twelve credits in Theatre Arts: THEA 1406: Musical Theatre Appreciation, THEA 1338: Musical Theatre Performance, THEA 1407: Intro Musical Theatre Design, and either THEA 1408: Immigrants and the Musical OR THEA 1409: Queer Broadway.
