World and Heritage Language Education, MED

In the Fall of 2021 the Foreign Language Education, MEd was renamed to World and Heritage Language Education, MEd. 

The Master of Education (MEd) program with a specialization in World and Heritage Language Education is a professional degree for individuals wishing to pursue advanced study in the field of teaching and learning world languages. Courses implement a practice-based approach to enhance students’ knowledge and application of particular teaching strategies that have been identified as essential to the field of world language education. 

The program coursework emphasizes practical application of current theories and methods for teaching and evaluating students as well as curriculum and materials development. 

36 credits required for this program. 

Unique features of the program include six credits of practicum coursework and six credits of research methodology.

Admissions Requirements:

  • 3.0 GPA in undergraduate coursework
  • For non-native speakers of English, evidence of language proficiency is required with the following minimum scores:
    • TOEFL - Minimum 80
    • IELTS - Minimum 6.5
    • Duolingo Test - 110

GPA and Grade requirements: All students enrolled in the Master of Education (MEd) program with a specialization in World and Heritage Language Education are required to maintain a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0. A student is automatically placed on academic warning if the cumulative GPA falls below 3.000.

Graduation Requirements: Students must complete 36 credits and meet the required GPA of 3.000 to meet graduation requirements.

Full-time or part-time enrollment is allowed

Fulltime students must start in Fall term

Comprehensive exam: Students complete a comprehensive exam in the last term or second to last term of the program. The comprehensive exam is not included in a course.
