Global Health Certificate

This certificate emphasizes an integrative problem-solving approach to Global Health, based in health equity. The certificate provides a global perspective to the graduate degree, through focused coursework and field study. Certificate course content covers a range of issues relevant to Global Health, such as community-based interventions, health education, health equity, policy analysis, ethics, human rights, epidemiologic trends, and evaluation of Global Health programs.

The baseline requirements for admission to the Global Health Certificate are equivalent to those for an MPH degree and include an additional Statement of Purpose and Objectives (no more than 1500 words).  Additional information for certificate applications can be found here .

Required Courses


8 Credits

The certificate core courses cannot overlap with any other departmental requirement.  Overlap is permitted for the remaining required courses and these may also fulfill departmental requirements.

Field Practicum


1 Credit Minimum

Students must complete a field experience, which can be combined with the required practicum for the degree program. provided the experience is relevant to global health. Students have the opportunity to complete this global health practicum in the form of local opportunities or in an international setting.

Elective Courses


1-6 Credits

Students select electives, as recommended by certificate advisor, that align with their specific area of interest and intended skillset.
