Research Writing in Physics and Astronomy will facilitate students’ development as practicing physicists and astronomers through writing. Many of the writing styles and techniques that are crucial for success in physics and astronomy careers possibly (probably) were not taught in the basic English courses that you have already completed. The primary goal of this class is to practice writing and speaking in a variety of contexts that might be encountered in astronomy/physics careers to thereby help the student further develop some of the skills central to life as a scientist (collaborative learning, effective reading, scientific writing, and impactful communication). A secondary, but almost equally important, goal is to expand and reinforce the students’ knowledge of astronomy and physics.
