The School of Social Work offers an online version of our existing part-time Master of Social Work (MSW) program, accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Board of Accreditation.
The School of Social Work has offered an MSW program since 1918 and has been continuously accredited since the end of its first year. The MSW is a terminal professional degree that students earn by successfully completing 60 graduate credits-42 in-class credits and 18 practicum credits.
The part-time Online MSW Program features our most popular specialization, Direct Practice with Individuals, Families, and Small Groups (Direct Practice), with the option to pursue one of three certificates that align with projected areas of growth in the profession:
- Direct Practice with Children, Youth, and Families (CYF)
- Direct Practice in Integrated Healthcare (IHC)
- Direct Practice in Mental Health (MH)
As with our face-to-face part-time program, by Fall 2026 there will be two types of students enrolled in the part-time Online MSW Program: Advanced Standing and Non-Advanced Standing students.
In Fall 2025, we will admit Non-Advanced Standing students, who will complete their coursework over 10 consecutive semesters (enrolling in six credits per semester). By Fall 2026, we will begin admitting Advanced Standing students. Advanced Standing students can transfer up to 21 credits from an undergraduate social work program accredited by the CSWE Board of Accreditation. These students will complete the part-time Online MSW Program over six consecutive semesters (year-round), also enrolling in six credits per semester.
