The academic requirements for this degree will include successful completion, i.e., passing grades, of all courses in the Preclerkship Years (MS 1-2) and submission a scholarly project that incorporates the student’s medical knowledge. The scholarly project would represent a mentored capstone project rather than be a credit bearing course. The scholarly project would culminate in a document structured as a research report or literature view. The written product will be at least 5-page summary demonstrating the knowledge gained through the engagement in the project. Together, these requirements would meet the criteria defined by the Program Committee for the Master of Medical Science. No additional courses will be required, and no additional tuition will be required for completion of the scholarly project. The Program Committee for the Master of Medical Science will decide on the acceptability of the project. The student must also submit a letter voluntarily withdrawing from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine MD program.
