Adult-Gerontology CNS MSN to DNP Major

Return to School of Nursing Return to: School of Nursing

The Adult-Gerontology CNS MSN to DNP major is offered onsite or online. Applicants with MSN (CNL, Education, General) will be evaluated for online eligibility.

The Adult-Gerontology CNS major is designed for MSN-prepared AG-CNSs who want to obtain a practice-focused doctorate. The MSN-DNP program builds upon the role of the CNS by further developing one’s clinical, organizational, economic, and leadership skills to facilitate the design and implementation of programs of care that significantly impact patient and health care outcomes and have the potential to transform health care.

This program can be completed onsite or online, either full time or part time. Selected core courses may be transmitted to eligible students who live a distance from campus. A sample program plan for full-time study is provided below. Depending on courses completed during the previous MSN program, additional coursework may be required. Students must complete a total of 72 credits between their prior MSN program and the current DNP curriculum and a minimum of 1000 clinical hours between the prior MSN program and the current DNP curriculum.

Graduates are eligible for national certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN).
