The University of Pittsburgh K-12 Principal Certificate program is built to provide candidates with knowledge, skills, dispositions, and experiences to prepare them to lead equitable and just learning environments for children and school communities. Completion of the program satisfies the requirements for the Pennsylvania Department of Education K-12 Principal Certificate.
The 18-credit asynchronous online format will provide working professionals with a flexible learning environment. The courses approach learning from an equitable stance and consider the interplays between health, wellness, and human development.
The program includes an internship component that will give candidates highly practical, real-world experiences with accomplished, practicing principals from various school communities. Career preparation and exposure activities are also included in the program to ensure that candidates are prepared for a successful start to their school leadership career. This program has the approval of the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Admissions Requirements
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college/university, as well as relevant professional certification.
Satisfies the requirements set forth in section 24 P.S. § 12-1209 relating to good moral character.
Satisfactory completion of two years of relevant professional education experience that is in an educational setting and related to the instructional process.
