Return to: School of Public Health Our mission is to advance the understanding and control of infectious diseases through cutting-edge research, comprehensive training programs, and exceptional public health services. We strive to be a world-renowned center of excellence in infectious diseases research, training, and public health solutions.
The strategic priorities of our department lie in the study of emerging and vector-borne infectious diseases, One Health, climate change and global health, HIV and Tuberculosis, as well as pandemic prevention and preparedness. Degree programs in IDM integrate molecular biology, immunology, epidemiology, medicine, health education, and community intervention. Through these collaborative approaches, our students are provided with opportunities for engaging in cross-disciplinary research.
Program graduates pursue careers in academia, industry, government, NGOs and community service. You will find IDM graduates working with prestigious employers in the USA and worldwide. Examples include the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, state and local health departments, pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, and major universities and other academic institutions.
The Department offers Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Science (MS), and Master of Public Health (MPH) programs. MPH students can pursue one of two concentrations: Infectious Disease Pathogenesis, Eradication, and Laboratory Practice (PEL) or Infectious Disease Management, Intervention, and Community Practice (MIC).

Financial Assistance
Financial support through assistantships is available for full-time doctoral students. A limited number of partial scholarships are available to outstanding new MS and MPH students.
