Admission
In addition to meeting the School-level Admission Requirements , applicants to the MS and PhD programs in human genetics should have completed courses in calculus and genetics. For the MS in genetic counseling program, the preferred undergraduate background includes courses in each of the following: genetics, organic chemistry-general biochemistry, statistics, and a behavioral or social science. In some cases, deficiencies can be made up after admission. For applicants to the MPH in public health genetics program, an introductory course in genetics is required; other college level coursework in biology may be considered to fulfill this requirement on a case-by-case basis. For the MS in genome bioinformatics, applicants should have completed courses in calculus, genetics, and programming or coding. For information on admission and registration contact the Department of Human Genetics at 412-624-3066 or nce1@pitt.edu.
