Return to: School of Public Health The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at Pitt Public Health is dedicated to understanding the health effects of biological, chemical, and physical agents through cutting-edge research in molecular and biochemical toxicology, epigenetics, gene-environment interactions, and computational toxicology. Embracing the concept of the exposome, our faculty investigates environmental and occupational exposures and their interactions with genetic and epigenetic factors over a lifetime. Beyond theoretical research, we emphasize environmental health practice, pollution prevention, policy or management with a focus on applied science and more practical problem solving. The department engages in active collaborations with community partners, other faculties, and national and global research centers, enriching our teaching and research endeavors. Our academic programs, characterized by rigorous mentoring and a flexible curriculum, offer students hands-on research opportunities and practical experiences, shaping them for careers in public health policy, consulting, risk assessment, academia, regulatory compliance & enforcement, industry, and beyond. Our graduates are well-equipped to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary professionals and are often employed in leading health organizations, contributing significantly to the field of environmental and occupational health.
