The joint degree program requires students to complete all the core requirements for the MD and Infectious Diseases and One Health MPH (IDM-OH MPH) degrees allowing students to blend clinical training with training in Infectious Diseases and One Health. Students complete coursework for the MPH core during summer terms (online asynchronous) and MPH core and electives embedded within the fall and spring terms (in-person) in the MD program. Students are required to complete a 200-hour minimum practicum (fulfilled by Family Medicine Clerkship) that will integrate public health concepts into clinical practice and prepare an essay (fulfilled by the longitudinal research project) that addresses an issue of public health significance that demonstrates the ability to synthesize information from numerous sources.
The MD/IDM-OH MPH program is designed to be completed in four years of full-time study. The IDM-OH MPH requirements for the joint degree are listed below. Students should refer to the School of Medicine for the most current MD requirements.
