Overview
The Cellular & Molecular Pathology (CMP) graduate program integrates cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, immunology, and computational approaches to investigate the mechanisms underlying human disease and tissue repair. The program combines basic science and translational research to address fundamental questions in tissue growth and development, regenerative medicine, and the cellular and molecular pathways that drive disease initiation, progression, and recovery.
Research areas within CMP span a broad range of disciplines, including liver biology and regeneration, developmental neuroscience and neurological disease, cancer biology, pulmonary disease, inflammation and autoimmunity, angiogenesis, gene regulation, bioinformatics, molecular diagnostics, gene editing, vision and hearing research, women’s health, and artificial intelligence applications in pathology and biomedical science. Faculty are closely aligned with major institutional initiatives, including the Center for Transcriptional Medicine and the Computational Pathology & AI Center of Excellence, fostering collaborative and technology-driven approaches to biomedical discovery.
CMP trainees work in a highly interactive research environment that emphasizes innovation, interdisciplinary science, and translational impact. Research laboratories are located throughout the medical center campus and include both basic research scientists and clinician-scientists, providing trainees with exposure to a broad spectrum of experimental and clinically relevant investigation. The program is equally committed to training the next generation of scientific leaders through rigorous graduate education, individualized mentorship, and collaborative research experiences that bridge discovery science and clinical application.
