Master of Business Administration with Business Analytics, MBA

The STEM-designated MBA with Business Analytics major was designed to meet the demands of graduate business students who seek broad business knowledge as well as an in-depth specialization in business analytics afforded by the curriculum included in the Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics.  The students will complete the required courses for both the MBA and Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics, with sufficient elective credits remaining to elect to complete a Micro-Credential (9 stackable credits), a Graduate Certificate (15 stackable credits) or select electives to individualize their studies. 

This program is closed to new applicants as of Fall 2026. Enrolled students may complete all degree requirements as planned. Students who wish to pursue analytics alongside a master’s degree are encouraged to explore our dual degree programs with the MS in Analytics and Applications of AI for Business.

MBA Degree Requirements


Students enrolled in an MBA program must fulfill the following requirements in order to earn the MBA degree: 

  1. A minimum of 45 credits of approved graduate work 

  1. The appropriate distribution of required core courses and elective courses 

  1. A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 

MBA Core Curriculum 

The following core courses are required of all MBA students: 

MBA Professional Courses


To supplement the MBA Core Curriculum, MBA students also complete additional required coursework. The content of these courses is designed to accelerate a student’s academic and personal development as a business professional.   

Elective Courses


Students in the MBA program must complete a minimum of 19.5 elective credits from any area of study offered at the School of Business. 

Taking electives at other Professional Schools at Pitt 

Students may also choose to take elective courses at other professional schools at the University, including the School of Law, the Swanson School of Engineering, the School of Social Work, the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, and the School of Computing & Information

Micro-credentials and Graduate Certificates


Students wishing to add additional specialization to the MBA program may be able to declare one or more micro-credentials or graduate certificates, many of which are stackable within the elective portion of the programs. Not all micro-credentials or graduate certificates will be feasible for every MBA program. Students should discuss their interest in micro-credentials and graduate certificates with their academic advisor to see how those requirements might be stackable within their degree program.
