The MPH in Behavioral and Community Health Sciences (BCHS) program prepares students for an applied public health career. In the MPH program you will learn and apply:
- community-engaged strategies
- social and behavioral concepts to assess the health status of populations
- applied social/behavioral theory
- social/behavioral science research methods to evaluate health promotion programs
- how to communicate with other researchers, communities, and policymakers.
The program emphasizes student learning and practicing assessment and research skills in the context of social and behavioral change at the individual, organizational, and community levels.
Students are required to complete a 200-hour practicum in a public health setting and prepare an essay or thesis that addresses an issue of public health significance and that demonstrates the ability to synthesize information from numerous sources. The MPH program is designed to be completed in four semesters of full-time study. An option does exist for finishing in three semesters. The requirements for the BCHS MPH degree are listed below.
