The graduate certificate in Maternal and Child Health (MCH), housed within the School of Public Health’s Center for Health Equity, is a 15-credit, 300-contact-hour program. Its goal is to provide students with the skills and abilities needed to join the future MCH workforce and improve the health and well-being of women, pregnant and birthing people, infants, children, adolescents, and children with special health care needs. Students will develop an understanding of the unique needs of these populations and acquire skills in scientific methods, policy development, and practice-based approaches. The curriculum emphasizes addressing population health needs, social and political determinants of health, and racial and ethnic health inequities through a life course perspective and a reproductive justice framework.
In addition to completing the 15-credit didactic curriculum, students will engage in 300 hours of experiential learning under the mentorship of faculty or community partners specializing in maternal and child health equity.
