Dual Degree MBA / Management Information Systems

The School of Business offers a dual-degree program that awards both an MBA and an MS in the Management of Information Systems to develop tech-savvy business leaders. The curriculum extends the MBA program to include advanced course work and a practicum in information management. Full-time students can complete the dual-degree program (60 credits required) in 21 months, four of which are usually spent working in an internship position. The program can also be completed on a part-time/evening basis. 

MBA Dual Degree


Students enrolled in the dual-degree with an MBA and MS program must fulfill the following requirements to earn the dual degrees:

  1. A minimum of 60 credits of approved graduate work 

  1. The appropriate distribution of  core, required, and elective courses 

  1. A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 

MBA Professional Courses


To supplement the MBA Core Curriculum, students also complete additional required coursework. The content of these courses is designed to accelerate a student’s academic and personal development as a business professional. 

Taking Electives at other Professional Schools at Pitt


Students may also choose to take elective courses at other professional schools at the University, including the School of Law, the Swanson School of Engineering, the School of Social Work, the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, and the School of Computing & Information. 

Micro-credentials and Graduate Certificates


Students wishing to add additional specialization to their degree program may declare one or more micro-credentials or graduate certificates, many of which are stackable within the elective portion of the programs. Students should refer to the requirements for any micro-credentials or graduate certificates of interest and discuss with their academic advisor how those requirements might be stackable within their degree program. 

MS MIS Core Requirements (For Dual Degree with MBA)


The following 6 credits of required to satisfy the MS Management Information Systems portion of the dual-degree program.

MS MIS Elective Requirements


Students in the dual-degree MBA/MS Management of Information Systems program must complete a minimum of 30 elective credits, of which at least 12 credits must be in the management information systems area. The remaining elective credits may be from any area of study offered at the School of Business.
