Bioengineering/Business Administration, MS/MBA

The Department of Bioengineering and the School of Business (KGSB) offer a dual MBA/MS program, with the following requirements for the Professional MS in Bioengineering. 

Joint Degree

Students may pursue a joint degree program that results in an MBA from the School of Business and an MS Engineering degree from the Swanson School of Engineering. MS Engineering degrees can be completed in the following disciplines: Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Sustainable Engineering, Industrial Engineering.

Note

Joint-degree students take a minimum of 30 credits from the School of Engineering and 33 credits from the School of Business. Students must graduate from both schools at the same time.

Candidates must complete a minimum of 11 courses (30 credits) [25.5 engineering credits] drawn from the following areas:

Graduate Engineering Math or Statistics - 3 credits


Per approval by program director

Medical Product Engineering Core Curriculum - 15 credits


Per approval by program director

Graduate Engineering/Science Electives - 9 credits


Per approval by program director

  • 1st Graduate Engineering/Science Elective
  • 2nd Graduate Engineering/Science Elective
  • 3rd Graduate Engineering/Science Elective (if tested out of BIOENG 2152)

Medical Ethics - 3 credits


Per approval by program director

MBA/MS Project Courses - 3 credits


Per approval by program director

Bioengineering Seminar - 0 credits


BIOENG 2024  is a required, zero-credit seminar focused on career development for students in the Professional MS program. It is required for 1 Fall and 1 Spring semester.

MBA Required Courses


To supplement the MBA Core Curriculum, MBA students also complete additional required coursework. The content of these courses is designed to accelerate a students’ academic and personal development as a business professional.

MBA Elective Courses


Students in the joint degree program must complete an additional 6 elective credits of School of Business courses.

Joint Project Course


Students are required to complete a 3-credit joint project course that integrates the business and engineering disciplines. Common courses used to meet this criteria are BIND 2024 or BQOM 2139. In cases where the 3-credit course completed is a School of Business course, 1.5 credits will count toward the MBA requirements and 1.5 will count toward the 30 credits of MSE requirements.

Total Number of Credits for Joint Degree: 63


Note:


All students must maintain a 3.0 GPA at all times to remain in good standing in the program.
