2025-2026 Undergraduate Catalog
Transportation Engineering
Civil Engineering undergraduate students in the Transportation Engineering Concentration gain a solid civil engineering foundation through a wide array of courses, and then focus on elective courses to individualize the program and best suit their career goals. In addition to the required course CEE 1703, which introduces the student to basic principles of transportation engineering, there are a variety of electives available to go beyond this introduction. Courses are available in transportation operations, planning and design. These specialization area courses are taught by faculty currently practicing in these areas to provide students with the basic knowledge and application in these fields. The transportation courses place an emphasis on class projects that apply the principals learned in the transportation environment.
Students are encouraged to combine the transportation program with associated programs in geotechnical, water resources, civil engineering, and applied mechanics. Graduates of the transportation program have found opportunities with consulting firms and public agencies as well as in research and academia.
