The University of Pittsburgh Exercise Science 17 credit minor program focuses on exposure to the science and physiology of exercise and competencies related to exercise presciption and programming. The Exercise Science minor prepares students to apply skills developed around fitness testing, assessment, instruction, and training for positions in health fitness settings, performance centers, fitness studios, or recreational centers. The Exercise Science minor also provides ancillary training for students desiring to enter graduate or professional programs in related fields (i.e. physical therapy, occupational therapy, nutrition and dietetics, physician assistant, chiropractic school, medical school, public health, and other allied-health professions).
The Exercise Science minor enables students, upon completion, to be eligible to sit for certification exams offered by professional agencies such as American College of Sports Medicine or National Strength and Conditioning Association.
