Return to: School of Education The Education Leadership Major leading to the Master of Education degree is for the emerging education leader interested in an administrative position in K-12 education. MEd students ground their academic study in the personal and professional growth of aspiring school leaders in three themes: Ethics, Inquiry, and Integrity. Students study leadership through the lens of ethics as the wisdom to lead schools well in complex and uncertain times; inquiry as understanding the dynamics of the production of knowledge; and integrity to navigate the moral context of education for equity and justice.
The K-12 Principal certificate program is a 15-month cohort-based program. Responding to the growing complexity of the role of the principal, the preparation program equips leaders with the ability to be effective change agents through four study areas, including leader as learner, instructional leadership, institutional leadership, and public leadership. Other unique features of the program include an intensive internship each term with mentor principals, week-long summer institutes face-to-face during the first and second summer, evidenced-based coherent curriculum, online and hybrid courses.
30 credits are required for this program. Students in this program must successfully complete a Capstone project as part of their Research Seminar class
