Return to: John A. Swanson School of Engineering The certificate in Safety Engineering program is intended for engineers seeking training in safety engineering to enhance their operational abilities or if they become newly assigned to positions that have higher levels of safety engineering responsibilities. It is also designed to enhance the capabilities of non-engineering based safety professionals seeking training in safety engineering, and affords the opportunity for engineers and other working professionals to maintain their certifications and licensure as safety professionals. A minimum of 15 credits are required to complete this certificate and the certificate may be obtained as a stand-alone program or in conjunction with the MS degree. In particular, the certificate requires the following 3-credit courses: IE 2301 - INTRODUCTION TO SAFETY ENGINEERING , IE 2302 - ENGINEERING FOR PROCESS SAFETY and IE 2303 - WORK DESIGN . The remaining two classes (6 credits) can come from a list of approved electives within the Swanson School that is maintained by the program director.
