PS 1322 - LATIN AMERICAN POLITICAL DEVELOPMENT Minimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 In this course we will address the following puzzle: why was it so difficult to build stable democracies in Latin America during the twentieth century? We will use the analytical tools provided by political science to illuminate the political history and the current situation of Latin America. Some of the topics that we will deal with in this course are: institutional arrangements, economic policy, and role of the military, elections, and political and social equality. Most of the course we will focus on thematic material using comparative analysis. However, we will also study four Latin American countries in greater detail.
