NUR 3075 - STATE OF THE SCIENCE: WOMEN’S HEALTH Minimum Credits: 2 Maximum Credits: 2 This course focuses on the critical appraisal and synthesis of theory and research pertinent to the health, wellbeing, and holistic care of women and people who may experience what are traditionally termed “women’s health” issues (e.g., menarche, pregnancy, gynecologic cancers). The impact of culture, history, and environment-including social and structural determinants of health, will be examined and applied to issues in research measurement, sampling and analysis, and intervention development and translation. Emphasis will be placed on the intersectional and individual influences of racism, gender discrimination, sexuality, ageism, poverty, and violence/trauma on women’s healthcare and health across the lifespan. Exemplars of current research in women’s health will be used to illustrate concepts, with the ultimate goal of students applying relevant theoretical, empirical, and reflexivity principles to their own area of research.
