NUR 1020C - ADVANCED NURSING MANAGEMENT OF THE ADULT WITH ACUTE/COMPLEX HEALTH PROBLEMS CLINICAL

This clinical course focuses on the nursing care of adults with acute and complex illnesses in a hospital setting. Students will prepare for a 1 day per week clinical experience by gathering key information on their assigned patient. Emphasis is placed on using the nursing process, the clinical judgement model, and critical thinking skills to assist students with the development of a comprehensive, holistic plan of care for their assigned patient. During the clinical experience, students will have the opportunity to build on skills learned in the lab and in previous clinical courses. The clinical nursing responsibilities include performing a complete patient assessment, interpretation of assessment findings and diagnostic studies, medical/surgical patient management, evaluation of outcomes, health promotion, patient teaching, discharge planning, and support for individuals and families experiencing acute and complex health problems. Clinical learning is focused on developing and refining the knowledge and skills to manage patient care as part of inter-professional teams. Clinical experiences are offered in acute care, progressive care, and cardiac monitored units.
