COMMRC 1115 - AFRICAN AMERICAN RHETORIC Minimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This course focuses on race and the rhetoric of history in the United States, with an emphasis on Black freedom struggles in the 20th century. Readings and discussions will address radical activism in the interwar years, Black women’s wartime organizing, mass mobilizing strategies in civil rights’ “classical phase,” and articulations of Black Power and Black feminism. Throughout, students will develop skills in archival analysis: composing and pursuing a research question, presenting selected findings, and reflecting on the experience of archival research.
