HIST 0430 - JAPAN AND THE WEST, 1600 - PRESENTMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This course considers the historical development of two very distinctive societies at opposite ends of the EurAsian continent: Japan and Western Europe. It focuses on the contrasting development of the early modern period-Europe's age of expansion and Japan's age of isolation, the course compares systems of thought, social and political institutions, and the importance of foreign influences in the two societies.
