GER 1540 - NIETZSCHE AND THE NIETZSCHEANSMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) continues to be one of the most influential modern philosophers, yet controversy surrounds almost every aspect of his life and work. This course will help students go beyond the controversy in order to consider Nietzsche's texts discerningly and how he approached the problems of truth, power, and morality. Close examination of his most important writings will be complemented by inquiry into Nietzsche's effects on Twentieth-Century philosophy, literature, and culture. The course will also survey major influences of Nietzsche's approaches on subsequent philosophers and scholars.
