GER 1535 - OUTSIDERS IN GERMAN LITERATUREMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 This course surveys major works of German literature of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries and develops literary analytical skills. Students will learn about various aspects of German culture by focusing on "outsiders"-individuals who live on the margins of a social order and, by their very marginality, help define accepted social norms. Readings include texts by Goethe, Kleist, Hoffmann, Buchner, Mann, Kafka, Borchert, Bachmann, Plenzdorf, and Wolf.
