ANTH 1523 - EUROPEAN ARCHELGY: THE ICE AGEMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Course includes the following topics: (1) history of discoveries and of the discipline of archeology; (2) the role played by archeology in the development of the concepts of prehistory and of human evolution; (3) introduction to pleistocene geology, and the effects of the changing environment of human life; (4) the first human traces to the late pleistocene cave sites (France, Spain) and open-air encampments (especially on the Russian Plain); (5) the beginnings of artistic and symbolic behavior, and their significance.
