HAA 1411 - MODERNISMMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Something happened in the history of art around the time of Manet which set painting upon a new course. This change has been described as a kind of skepticism or uncertainty about the nature of representation in art, characterized by an attention to the material means by which illusions and likenesses are made. This course will examine several monuments in the history of modernism, in an attempt to define the political ambitions of modernism and to confront the issue of whether modernism has become simply an aesthetic or is still a viable artistic strategy in the post-modern" era."
