ASTRON 0113 - INTRODUCTION TO ASTRONOMYMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Topics covered include: size scales in the universe; some fundamental physics; telescopes; overview of phenomena in the solar system; stellar distances, motions, luminosities, and temperatures; the HI diagram, stellar interiors and energy generation; the formation of stars and evolution to their final stages (white dwarfs, neutron stars, and black holes); the ism; star clusters; the milky way galaxy; types of galaxies; the expansion of the universe; active galaxies and quasars; dark matter; galaxy formation and clustering; cosmology.
