EPIDEM 2130 - FOUNDATIONS IN SOCIAL EPIDEMIOLOGY

This semester-long course provides students with a foundation in social epidemiology. It will cover the theory and framing that underpins the ways in which social structures and environmental factors shape public health outcomes. Students will learn how to develop research questions and public health interventions around social, political and economic determinants of health, including understanding how socioeconomic position, race/ethnicity, place, and social networks contribute to the distribution of population health. The premise of the course is that health and disease are shaped by social, economic, political, and commercial factors operating at multiple levels of influence.
