ENGWRT 1113 - BUILDING IMAGINARY WORLDS:WRITING GENRE FICTION

Minimum Credits: 3
Maximum Credits: 3
Long Description In this course, through a series of guided steps, participants will build and write their own imaginary worlds. We will consider aspects of any given imaginary world: geography, size and scope, economics, culture, flora and fauna, fashion, food, religion, architecture, and many others. Participants are free to explore whatever strange, imagined world they wish. We will also consider the enormous range of genre designations and tropes in writing fiction. The first weeks of the semester will be devoted to these aims, culminating in a classroom presentation of participants' imagined worlds. Following this, the rest of the semester will be devoted to producing revised, workshopped stories or chapters of a novel or novella.
