VIET 0200 - VIETNAMESE 2Minimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Long Description This course is a continuation of VIET 0100: Vietnamese 1 and can be applied toward the minor in Vietnamese. VIET 0200 is designed for students who have limited knowledge of the Vietnamese language and want to further develop their basic speaking, listening, writing, and reading skills in Vietnamese. In this course, emphasis continues to be placed on language as a tool for communication and the cultural context within which Vietnamese is used. By the end of this course, students should be able to engage in simple multi-sentence conversations on familiar and everyday topics; compose simple sentences and short paragraphs in the past, present, and future tense; identify the topic and some isolated facts in short texts; and demonstrate an understanding of particular aspects of Vietnamese culture. Being able to communicate in Vietnamese can be beneficial in many careers and can help students connect to their Vietnamese heritage. Knowledge of Vietnamese and Vietnamese culture can also be a good complement to studies of the history of Southeast Asia; folk and traditional art, music, and dance of Southeast Asia; Asian Studies; the study of other languages spoken in the region; and other related fields.
