SWE 0200 - SWEDISH 2Minimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Long Description This course is a continuation of SWE 0100: Swedish 1 and can be applied toward the minor in Swedish. In SWE 0200, students will continue to develop the basic vocabulary and essential grammatical structures needed for speaking, listening, writing, and reading skills in Swedish. Emphasis continues to be placed on the use of language as a tool for real-life communication skills and the cultural context within which Swedish is used. By the end of this course, students should be able to communicate at a limited level in culturally appropriate ways in familiar and everyday situations; share and understand simple sentences with information on both very familiar and everyday topics; identify the topic and some isolated facts in short texts and spontaneous conversations with simple sentences. Being able to communicate in Swedish, a melodic language that traces its origin back to Old Norse and Vikings, can be beneficial in many careers, including international business and trade; international relations, law, and public policy; environmental studies and sustainability; healthcare and social services; diplomacy and international relations; and more. Knowledge of the Swedish language and Swedish culture can also complement the studies of the literature and history of the Nordic and Baltic regions; art, film, and music; Finnish and North Germanic languages such as Norwegian and Danish; Scandinavian Studies; and other related areas.
