ENGR 1708 - CYBERSECURITY-BY-DESIGN FOR OPERATIONAL TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMSMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Long Description This course is an introduction to cybersecurity-by-design practices for operational technology (OT) systems. An OT system is the hardware and software used to monitor, control, and automate physical processes in industrial environments. OT systems were traditionally designed for reliability and safety, not cybersecurity; however, the increasing digitization and connectivity of these systems have exposed them to sophisticated cyber threats. Students will learn to integrate cybersecurity engineering with other aspects of OT system design to achieve "security-by-design". Students will learn the fundamental principles of OT systems and OT cybersecurity, then apply those principles through a series of hands-on research projects aligned with the design of a high-stakes OT system. Topics include threat modeling, risk assessment, consequence analysis, defensive cybersecurity architecture design, and adversary task analysis. Cybersecurity-by-design is a multi-disciplinary challenge - students of all engineering disciplines are encouraged to participate.
