FMST 0846 - ENVIRONMENTAL FILMMAKING

Minimum Credits: 3
Maximum Credits: 3
Long Description Environmental Filmmaking is a course where students interested in environmental studies, sustainability, or in filmmaking learn how to integrate multiple disciplines. Students gain the skills and knowledge to create thoughtful and well-researched ecological films. Class time will be spent with lectures that focus on the published science covered in feature films, film screenings, field trips to film on location, and in-class film productions. Assignments include three different short films, a research journal, and written assignments comparing the science described in peer-reviewed manuscripts to the summary of the science conveyed in films. Through completing the assignments in this course, students will gain the skills necessary to learn about peer-reviewed science on ecological and environmental issues and then how to convey that information in short films. This course counts as a Category III Elective in the Film and Media Studies major and minor, and a Topical Elective in the Production Track.
