CHEM 1825 - CHEMICAL BIOLOGY II LAB: SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY LABMinimum Credits: 2 Maximum Credits: 2 Long Description This synthetic biology Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experience (CURE) transforms the lab into a discovery space where students design and test real biological systems while contributing to authentic research. In the inaugural theme, every student enrolled in this lab will engage in authentic research through the design and validation of novel biosensors for detection of biologically significant analytes. Such sensors have wide-ranging potential applications in areas such as precision medicine (diagnosing disease), environmental science (monitoring toxic algae blooms), and agriculture (protection of crops from pathogens). Towards their proposed biosensor, students will gain experience with DNA design, CRISPR base editing, protein engineering, and AI-guided molecular design, supported by modern biophysical and analytical tools. Students work in teams to develop original research proposals, collect preliminary data, and present a final proposal for their idea. Academic Career: Undergraduate Course Component: Credit Laboratory Grade Component: LG/SNC Elective Basis Course Requirements: PREQ: CHEM 1810 and CHEM 1880 and BIOSC 1000 and BIOSC 1810
