BUSFIN 1342 - ALTERNATE ASSETS: FROM VC TO PEMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Long Description The course endeavors to create an understanding of the global private equity market, identify stakeholders, assess evaluation techniques of portfolio companies, examine the financing techniques, review how portfolio companies are managed, and evaluate exit realization strategies. The discussion will also include the importance of private equity in capital markets, current trends in investments, and the type of investors. This course will focus on financial aspects of private equity investing to deepen the understanding of traditional corporate finance, as well as supplement other aspects such as entrepreneurship and management practices. It may be noted that this course is best suited for students have already undertaken basic finance courses. This course is largely case study based and students need to have a good grounding in the theory of finance. Class participation has significant weightage towards the final grade. Per the McKinsey & Company, Global Private Equity Report 2024, private markets continued to grow. These markets which include, private equity, real estate, infrastructure, natural resources etc., both fund raising ($858 billion of new capital) and assets under management (AUM), at $7.4 trillion worldwide, continued an impressive cycle of expansion that began in 2008. Over the decades, since the early 1950's when this asset class started to form, it is now an important component of funding source for most businesses across the globe, big or small.
