ENGFLM 1528 - SCREAM QUEENS:WOMEN AND HORROR MEDIAMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Long Description Despite its status as a low cultural object, the horror film is and has always been one of the cinema's most popular and durable genres, especially with women audiences. This course deliberately creates an alternate historiography while examining horror film from early cinema through to its contemporary form on the international screen to consider how gender and genre interact transnationally and with considerations of marketing, cultural specificity, and censorship. Throughout the course, we will actively reflect upon the genre's relationship to politics understood broadly. Readings in film theory, feminist and queer theory, and film history will open up our discussions of such questions. This course counts for the Film and Media Studies major and minor as a Category 2 elective. Academic Career: Undergraduate Course Component: Lecture Grade Component: LG/SNC Elective Basis
