Long Description EXPERIMENTS IN 3D ANIMATION introduces students to alternative methods of moving image making through the use of animated 3D computer generated imagery (CGI). Students will learn and explore techniques in 3D modeling, 3D cameras and lighting, keyframe animation, procedural materials, image texturing, model rigging, and physical simulations, while contextualizing these skills with parallel viewings and discussions of contemporary 3D animation work. Particular focus will be placed on individual student projects with a strong technical emphasis on using the Blender 3D creation suite. Course time will consist of lectures, technical demonstrations, in-class work time, screenings, discussions, and group critiques. This course is a Film and Media Studies Category 3 elective, and a Technical Elective in the Production Track.
