ENGCMP 0412 - ENGINEERING COMMUNICATION IN A PROFESSIONAL CONTEXTMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Long Description ENGCMP 0412 Engineering Communication in a Professional Context, is a required course for Swanson School of Engineering first-year students. In this course, students write a significant research paper for the Swanson School of Engineering's Annual Conference on Sustainability, held near the end of the spring term. Students compose this paper in teams of three, undertaking intensive research into a current engineering innovation/technology. Teams expand upon that research as they move through a multi-step process of writing and revising a conference paper that includes considerable technical content as well as intensive analyses of the social value and ethical applications of that technology. Through ENGCMP 0412, students will continue to increase their experience with major teamwork projects, practice best policies and procedures for professional communication and presentation, and will continue with the academically and intellectually rigorous process (begun in ENGCMP 0210, Seminar in Composition: Engineering) of understanding and communicating what it means personally, educationally, professionally, socially, and globally to "be an engineer." ENGCMP 0412 is hybrid, meaning that writing instruction will take place online with a once-a-week class meeting with your professor.
