PSY 1135 - SOCIAL COGNITIONMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Long Description This course examines the cognitive mechanisms that underlie social understanding. Drawing on current research in social and cognitive psychology, we will analyze how fundamental mental processes (e.g., language, memory, attention, perception) shape the way we understand other people, navigate group dynamics, and construct our sense of self. Through in-depth discussion of primary research articles, we will critically evaluate how individuals encode and make sense of social information, including group identity, emotional expression, and contextual cues. We will consider how these processes operate in real-world behaviors, decisions, and biases.
