RUSS 0590 - RUSSIAN LITERATURE ON PAGE AND SCREENMinimum Credits: 3 Maximum Credits: 3 Long Description Is the book always better than the movie? What does it mean to make a faithful adaptation? What happens to the narrator in a film version of a novel or story? And why is it so hard to make a good movie out of some of the best novels? This course provides a dynamic introduction to some of the most influential works of Russian literature and their fascinating histories of reception and adaptation in multiple media (film, music, theatre, animation, illustration, graphic novels). All readings, discussions, and written work in English. No prior knowledge of Russian literature, history, or culture required or expected.
